Just hours after their victory over Everton to finish the Premier League season, Arsenal has reportedly agreed to a contract extension with midfielder Mohamed Elneny. The Egyptian international was in the last remaining weeks of his contract but will now sign a one-year extension with an option to extend it for another year. The contract extension was first reported by Football.London reporter Kaya Kaynak and confirmed by goal.com reporter Charles Watts.
Mikel Arteta mentioned in his post-match press conference when it came to the contract extensions involving Elneny, Eddie Nketiah, and Alexandre Lacazette, "It's been decided, but it's very difficult to communicate it. What they deserve is to have what they had today," (Charles Watts). It appears that Arsenal is beginning their off-season moves swiftly with this extension. Elneny was a pivotal piece in Arsenal's starting 11 to finish the season after Thomas Partey went down with a season-ending injury against Crystal Palace in early April.
While Elneny's reportedly extended his contract, there's no indication if there's a deal for Nketiah and Lacazette. When Arteta talked about off-season plans for the club, he said, "From my side and as a club we will do what we have to do and do what we think is the best thing for the club to move forward - and do it with the integrity and honesty that we've always done it. Those players know individually their situations, when it is going to be communicated, and that situation will happen face-to-face, the way they deserve," (Chris Wheatley).
