After defeating Chelsea and Manchester United, it was a picture-perfect week for Arsenal, propelling them back into fourth place in the Premier League table. As only five games remain in the season, Arsenal's transfer plans for the summer are becoming clearer.

After multiple reports, Arsenal is looking to make a marquee signing, and they have their eyes set on Gabriel Jesus. The Manchester City striker has reportedly met with Arsenal representatives, and he's open to a move to the Emirates. One of the reasons could be because Gabriel Jesus knew Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta during his days as an assistant to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

In the last couple of days, the story develops further as now Football.London writer Chris Wheatley reports that Arsenal looks to submit a bid in the region of £35million. The Athletic writer David Ornstein reported that the talks between the player and Arsenal seem to be completed this past weekend. The final steps of the transfer are just between Man City and Arsenal.

It's a transfer that Technical Director Edu Gaspar looks to complete as the first signing for Arsenal this summer. Edu confirmed to ESPN Brazil about the plans he's set forth for Arsenal's summer transfer window, saying, "Our planning has already been done, it has already reached the owners. It's a matter of step by step, how we are going to finish the season and to put in plan the planning that I'm very excited about."

It goes without a shadow of a doubt that Arsenal will have to make signings in the striker position this summer. They currently have two expiring contracts with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, and both are looking unlikely to sign an extension. Jesus, during his time at Manchester City, has typically played as a right-winger; however, he can fit the mold comfortably as a traditional No. 9.

Since the transfer rumor has reached the media, Jesus has made two starts for Manchester City and has scored five goals and bagged an assist. Arsenal fans have taken to social media to express their excitement about the potential transfer, but for now, no party involved in the transfer rumor is talking about the move. Instead, Jesus came out and said, "Not time to think about this…I want to enjoy it, keep focussed on my teammates to fight for the Premier League. I've won with my teammates three times already so I know how it feels and I want to again… That's my focus," (Manchester Evening News). As for Pep Guardiola, he made a firm stance on the rumor saying, "I want to tell you something; Gabriel is our player..I don't know what is going to happen but he is a Man City player. When he has days like today, I am the happiest man in the world! Every player is happy when they play 90 minutes all the time but at the end of the season whether he wants to extend, stay or leave, I don't know and I don't care," (Mirror).

Regardless of whether the rumor will become a reality within the next few weeks, one thing is for sure; this is the first concrete transfer that every media outlet is reporting on that Arsenal holds "serious" interest in the player. The roadblocks Arsenal may face are whether they make Champions league qualifications and whether or not Manchester City will demand an outrageous transfer fee for Jesus. Nevertheless, this story will be closely monitored and may be one of the first marquee signings of the upcoming summer transfer window.

I’m excited to see what Jesus can bring to the team especially since he’s been doing so well with Man City!
